Interactive Book Reading Session

with Renowned Author, Psychologist Birsen Taspinar

EPN Limburg organized a brunch with Birsen Taspinar, the author of the best-selling book of Mothers of Silence, accompanied by a concert of Henk de Laat on March 16, 2014.

About 50 professionals, all of whom were from various sectors of the business world, education, accounting, logistics, politics and law, attended the activity.

At the beginning of the event, the professionals enjoyed the delicious Turkish brunch prepared by the volunteers of the Association of Vuslat Beringen. After the delicious brunch, the event proceeded with the reading of the writer in Dutch. The reading session was accompanied by the beautiful songs of the Henk Let.

In her book, “Mothers of Silence,” psychologist Birsen Taspinar introduces the readers three women named Pelin, Elif and Hülya –Turkish women living in Belgium. By telling their stories, the author shows that living in a country as an outsider comes with great difficulties. During their talks, the characters often question the concepts of gender and ethnicity.

The board of EPN Limburg thanked Taspinar and Henk de Laat with a bunch of flowers and Belgian chocolates. At the end of the event, the attendants were able to buy the book and have it signed by Taspinar.

Ms. Taspinar, who has studied on the effect of migration on people’s psychology, writes columns for the magazine of Mo.
